Harry L. Simón Salazar is a lifelong educator and community organizer. He has co-founded and served in leadership positions within numerous organizations. A substantial part of his community work involves media production. He has independently published several non-academic books and produced dozens of community-based pamphlets, booklets, and documentaries. Harry has extensive experience with digital communication technologies, having created dozens of websites, directed social media campaigns, and administered multiple bilingual social media accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers. He is also proud to admit that he has been a videographer, an editor of several newspapers, a construction worker, and has built his own lowrider, a 1965 El Camino.
He is the author of Television, Democracy, and the Mediatization of Chilean Politics (2018) and is currently working on a new book: No Walls For Donald: The Vilification of Latin America in U.S. Political Culture. His interdisciplinary scholarship intersects the fields of critical political communication, mediatization theory, political culture, identity formation and class struggle, Latin American studies, Human Rights discourse and memory, Chicana/o Studies, border studies, and the media practices/production of social movements.
